Those Growing Kiddos...

I get so wrapped up in the funny things the kids do that I forget to fill everyone in on how they're developing! I know that most on my side of the family just saw the kids last week, so you've got an idea of what they're really up to these days. For those that live further away, I thought i'd give you an update. I don't know how much Ryan goes into detail on the kids when you guys chat.
Leah is amazing, talking like crazy. She'll tell a story with a beginning, middle and end. She'll tell us her plans for the rest of the day, and even try to throw in some time words like, "Mommy, I'm going to take a bath and then play outside. Then we'll eat lunch at 4 o'clock in 3 hours." She weighs about 28 lbs now and is getting tall. She walks on her toes and runs the rest of the time. She LOVES her ballet class and she LOVES her class at church although it's like pulling teeth trying to get her to retell her Bible story. "I just want to tell you later", she tells us. And then she's too tired the next time we ask.
She is quickly becoming independent and likes to take care of herself. She definately has a preference on what to wear, how her hair should look and even on what matches. Right down to the color bow in her hair and the shoes on her feet! We're still trying to figure out where she gets this girly fashion sense, because it certainly wasn't from me! At her 3 year check up our doctor said she should be scribbling and should be able to draw what resembles a circle. Not only can she make circles, but you've seen in past pictures that she's drawing spiders with legs and faces now. I'm truly amazed with her and how well her little brain is working. I know that she's enjoying learning, and experiencing her new discoveries. You'll see in the video i've attached how she's learned her letters. With the occasional mix up, she's learned those letters! Mostly what we love about Leah is her sweet little heart. She's very honest, cares very much about helping Logan be happy, and will apologize quickly if she's done wrong. She is a good example of a child that will probably never recieve a spanking. All she needs is a few minutes in time out and a sad heart from mom or dad. It eats her up and she tries harder next time. We can't believe how fast 3 years has gone by! She's growing into an amazing little girl.
Logan, Logan, Logan. Where do I start? He's 15 months old now. Yesterday was his 15 month check up. The doctor said he's very verbal and is far exceeding the norm on vocabulary. He's in the 10th percentile for weight and height, and his head is now in the 40th percentile as opposed to the 70th at 12 months! He's getting tall too, and his face is starting to really thin out. Those dimples are getting deeper as his baby fat goes away, and he makes some seriously funny faces. If it were up to him, he'd climb around all day, or play outside all day. You'll see in the pictures how much he loves the water. The day we took these pictures, he figured out how to fill up the bucket with the hose, and then dump it on himself! We had to force him to get out of the water because he was turning blue.
Logan feeds himself with a spoon or fork, prefers to use one actually. Lately eating has been a challenge with him because he's teething and he's hurting. He'll eat raisins at any time of day, and is good about drinking his milk. He's got about 35 words and is starting to put two words together now. He tells us when he wants to, "do it" himself, or when he's, "all done". He's been telling us everytime he goes potty for about three weeks now, so I have a feeling that potty training may not be that far off. I'm crossing my fingers he'll keep being interested and that very soon we'll have no more diapers! Even though he has all those words, he still prefers to scream when he's mad at Leah, or throwing a fit. Ryan calls him Teradactyl, and Logan quickly replies, "Dactyl". Logan, as opposed to Leah, may not go three years without a swat on the behind. He'll sit in time out, has done so since he turned 1. He'll sit there nicely, but it doesn't make him sad. It's more like he knows that if he bides his time, he can give me a kiss when times up and then go play again. We'll figure out what works for him. For now, he knows that there are consequences for acting out and it at least calms him down for a minute.
He's pretty fearless, jumping off and sliding down things he probably shouldn't be at this age. He'll go down the spiral slide at the park, he'll slide down off of our bed onto the floor, and land on his feet. His crib is now a toddler bed. He slept great in in for about 2 weeks and now for a few nights, he's not been feeling great and then had shots, so we think that's the cause of his sleepless nights. We're hoping it's just a phase and that here in the next few days, he'll be back to his old self. We've always said that Logan's a clown...even when he was a little bitty thing, he knew he was funny. We keep seeing more and more of that personality shine through and we're just loving his smile. He's a new challenge for us, and we're doing our best to manage his personality with Leah's, and help them love and care for each other.
We're anxious to see how they do sharing a room...i'm sure that will be another blog entry soon. Stay tuned...
